Jugendstil Estonian Drama Theatre - Eesti Draamateater, Tallinn, Estonia May 1996 - Pärnu mnt 5, Tallinn is the address of the Estonian Drama Theatre, the Eesti Draamateater, founded in 1916 or 1920 depending on source, but only housed in this former German Theatre (there was a sizeable German population here living in what they called Reval, also used in Russian times) after 1939. In the Soviet times, this was a rare site of drame in the estonian language.
The Theatre was built as Deutsches Theater by Bubyr and N. Vassilyev in 1910 with a major interior rebuild in 1980 in Soviet times, probably based on the slightly earlier, 1906-8, design of the Hebbel Theater in the Stresemannstraße 29-29a, Berlin by the architect Oskar Kaufmann. navigate_before navigate_next
